Nittany Lions 13th In Current Director's Cup Standings

Penn State earned another 25 points towards its Director's Cup score with men's volleyball's appearance in the national semifinal and is currently 13th overall in the 2008-09 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings. Stanford leads with 1258.75 points. Penn State currently has 727 points and is just out of the Top 10. Four Big Ten teams are among the nation's Top 15 including Michigan (fourth, 884.80 points), Ohio State (seventh, 828.80) and Minnesota (eighth, 826.25).

Mark Pavlik's men's volleyball team finished the year with a 27-4 record after going all the way to the national semifinals. Five members of the Nittany Lion team (27-3) earned AVCA All-America honors en route. Senior middle hitter Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio), junior middle hitter Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) and junior outside hitter Will Price (Gaithersburg, Md.) all earned First Team AVCA All-America honors while sophomore libero Dennis Del Valle (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) and redshirt freshman setter Edgardo Goas (San Juan, Puerto Rico) both earned Second Team AVCA All-America accolades.

The Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Ala., is the program's sponsor. More than 300 Division I institutions are eligible to be ranked in the standings. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 men's and 10 women's.
