Men's Tennis to Participate in ITA Kick-Off Weekend Tournament

June 11, 2009

The Penn State men's tennis team was recently invited to participate in the second annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend tournament. The Nittany Lions were assigned to be the third seed in the Florida bracket and will face second-seeded Georgia Tech in the first round of the tourney. The other teams in the Florida bracket include the host Gators and Furman. ITA Kick-Off Weekend will take place from Jan. 29-31, 2010.

The ITA Kick-Off Weekend features 15 host sites with four teams at each site vying for a berth in the ITA Men's Team Indoor Championships. The winners of the 15 brackets will advance to play in the ITA Men's Team Indoor Championships at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va., on Feb. 12-15.

The Nittany Lions return seven letterwinners from last year's team, led by senior Guillaume St-Maurice (Saint-Eustache, Quebec) and junior Eddie Bourchier (Hobart, Australia). St-Maurice had a team-best 18 win, including 13 victories in dual matches. He also won 16 doubles matches, playing primarily with Brendan Lynch in the third pairs slot. Bourchier collected 14 victories a year ago in singles play to go along with 18 doubles wins.
