UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -The Penn State women's soccer program was well represented in Women's Professional Soccer action this weekend. Erin McLeod '05 and Christine Welsh '02 started for their respective teams of the five Nittany Lions currently on club rosters.
McLeod earned her first shutout of the season in a 0-0 tie against the Chicago Red Stars. The Washington Freedom netminder stopped one shot to up her record to 2-1-2 on the season, topping the club in appearances and starts in net. She also boasts a goals against average of 1.20 in 2009.
Welsh started in a 1-0 victory at Boston on Sunday, taking three shots in the win. Overall, Welsh played 89 minutes for Saint Louis Athletica in her eight appearances and fourth start of the season.
Other Nittany Lions on rosters, but not in action included Welsh's teammate and 2007 graduate, Sheree Gray, Tiffany Weimer '05 and Joanna Lohman '03. Gray has seen time in four games this year in Saint Louis.
Weimer is a member of the FC Gold Pride based out of San Jose, Calif. So far, Weimer has scored once and assisted three times in her 10 appearances on the pitch, eight of which were starts. Lohman is a teammate of McLeod's, having started one of the three games in which she has seen time in 2009.
