UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Sept. 18, 2009 - The 2009 NIT Champion Nittany Lion basketball team will meet with fans outside the Beaver Stadium Bookstore Saturday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the football team's noon kickoff with Temple.
Coming off a school-record 27-win season and the program's first ever national tournament championship, the Nittany Lions return three starters, eight lettermen and first-team All-Big Ten and USA World University Games leading scorer Talor Battle (Albany, N.Y.). Battle, and fellow returning starters Drew Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) and David Jackson (Farrell, Pa.) and the rest of the Nittany Lions will sign autographs, pose for pictures and distribute free copies of the 2009-10 basketball poster outside the bookstore.
Fans will also have their first chance to meet much-heralded freshmen Sasa Borovnjak (Belgrade, Serbia), Bill Edwards (Middletown, Ohio), Tim Frazier (Houston, Texas) and Jermaine Marshall (Etters, Pa.).
Fans driving to the game or listening at home will be able to catch Coach Ed DeChellis and Battle joining Jed Donahue on Sports Jam on 3WZ in the morning. DeChellis will join the program at 8:30 a.m. followed by Battle at 9:30 a.m.
Penn State officially begins full-team practice on Friday, Oct. 16 and fans will get their first chance to see the team in action on Friday, Nov. 6 as the Nittany Lions take on Slippery Rock in exhibition action at 6:00 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center the night before the football team's kickoff with Ohio State in Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions officially open the season the following Friday, Oct. 13 when they take on Penn in a 7:30 p.m. home tip, the night before the football team hosts Indiana in Beaver Stadium.
