UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's gymnastics team, who finished 2009 ranked ninth in the country, hosts six home meets in Rec Hall in 2010, including three double-duals with the Nittany Lion men's team.
The 2010 schedule features nine meetings during the regular season with teams that were ranked in the top 25 in the nation at the conclusion of last year. The Nittany Lions will face Alabama (No. 2), Utah (No. 3), Oregon State (No. 11), Illinois (No. 12), Ohio State (tied for No. 14), Michigan (tied for No. 14), Nebraska (No. 17), Michigan State (No. 22) and West Virginia (No. 25).
The Nittany Lions open the 2010 season at Michigan State on Jan. 8 where they will also face West Virginia and Western Michigan. From there the team travels to Denver on Jan. 16 before returning to Happy Valley to host three straight home meets. Penn State opens its home slate on Jan. 23 hosting a quad-meet with Cornell, Iowa and Yale before welcoming Minnesota and Alabama to Rec Hall on Jan. 30. The Lions host Illinois in the first of three double-duals with the men's team on Feb. 6. After traveling to Pittsburgh on Feb. 13, the Nittany Lions return home to host West Virginia in a double-dual on Feb. 20 prior to heading to Ohio State on Feb. 27 for a 4 p.m. meet. Penn State opens March hosting a quad meet with Maryland, Michigan and Bridgeport before one final regular-season road trip to Utah, where it will also take on Oregon State and Southern Utah. The Nittany Lions close out the regular season hosting Nebraska in one final double-dual with the Nittany Lion men.
Ohio State hosts the 2010 Big Ten Championships on Saturday, March 27 as Penn State faces Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State and Illinois with the goal of earning their first Big Ten title.
The six sites hosting the 2010 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regionals on April 10 are Kentucky, Utah, Missouri, West Virginia, UCLA and Penn State. The NCAA National Championship will be held at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center April 22-24 on the campus of the University of Florida.
