Nittany Lion Lacrosse Team Names Britt, Hogan and Shea Tri-Captains

Sept. 5, 2009

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State Nittany Lion men's lacrosse coach Glenn Thiel announced the team's selection of seniors Joe Britt (Fairfax, Va.) and Brain Shea (Gaithersburg, Md.) and junior Chris Hogan (Wyckoff, N.J.) as tri-captains. The threesome was selected by their teammates to lead the squad into the 2010 campaign.

"We are very pleased with the selection of Brian, Joe, and Chris to lead the 2010 squad," Thiel said. "They are intense, emotional, and outstanding contributors to the program. Each man will do a great job of motivating the squad to do what it takes to wade through the Colonial Athletic Association schedule as we look to secure an NCAA bid this spring."

Britt played in all 14 games as a midfielder for Penn State last season, starting most of them. The Fairfax, Va., native had a superb .504 face-off percentage, winning 67 of 133 attempts. He also collected 23 ground balls.

Shea notched 15 points off ten goals and seven assist for Penn State last year, also playing from the midfield. The Gaithersburg, Md., product also started much of the 2009 campaign.

Hogan, the lone junior among the tri-captains, was second on the Penn State team last season in scoring with 34 points off a team-best 29 goals and five assists. The Wyckoff, N.J., native had a superb .356 shot percentage as well.

The Penn State lacrosse team is coming off a 9-5 season last year and ended the campaign ranked No. 16 in the national by the USILA Coaches. The Nittany Lions will embark upon their first season in the CAA in 2010.
