UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Oct. 23, 2009 - With three week's remaining before the Nittany Lion basketball team officially tips of the season vs. Penn in the Bryce Jordan Center on Nov. 13, Penn State student season ticket sales for men's basketball have moved past 1,000. The surge in student season tickets marks a 37 percent increase over last season and follows on the heels of a school-record 27 wins and first-ever NIT Championship.
"The energy and enthusiasm for Nittany Lion basketball within the Penn State student body and our season ticket holders in general has been tremendous," Penn State basketball marketing director Loren Crispell said. "The anticipation for this season is unlike anything we've seen in quite awhile. Our students were really impressive and saw the huge impact they could have last season and I think they can't wait to turn the Jordan Center into an opponent's nightmare again this season."
Overall season ticket sales to the general public have also seen a marked increase of 17 percent over last season with more than 4,600 distributed.
Penn State will welcome all season ticket holders (adult and student) to an open practice at the Bryce Jordan Center this Saturday (Oct. 24). Doors to the Bryce Jordan Center will open at 9 a.m. Season ticket holders are encouraged to park in the Founder's Lot of the Jordan Center (East side of building nearest Beaver Stadium) and enter through the Founder's entrance. The Nittany Lions will practice until 11:30 a.m. in the Jordan Center's South Gym. Ticket holders will then be treated to free pizza in the Founder's Lounge. Penn State media guides and jersey T-shirts will be available for purchase.
It will be season ticket holders first opportunity to see how much heralded freshmen Tim Frazier, Bill Edwards, Sasa Borovnjak and Jermaine Marshall are meshing with standout returners such as first team All-Big Ten point-guard Talor Battle and standout juniors David Jackson, Andrew Jones and Jeff Brooks. Penn State returns three starters and eight lettermen that account for 53 percent of scoring and 65 percent of rebounding from last year's record setting team.
Penn State will play an exhibition game with Slippery Rock on Fri., Nov. 6 at 6:00 p.m. which will be immediately followed by "Rally in the Valley" prior to the Ohio State football game. Penn State officially opens the season vs. Penn on Fri., Nov. 13 in a 7:30 p.m. tip. Both games will be played the Friday night before a home Nittany Lion football game.
Penn State season basketball tickets, PNC Bank Flex Book plans (10 tickets to use at any game for $99) or single game tickets can be purchased by visiting GoPSUsports.com, Ticketmaster or calling 814-865-5555. Single-game tickets for Nittany Lion games are $18 for lower bowl seating, $15 for upper bowl seating and $7/$5 for youth. Penn State also offers special group ticket rates (15 fans or more) of $10 for adults.
