UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - In a month filled with awards and accolades for senior forward Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.) she received yet another late Thursday night: Academic All-District. The ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District teams were released last night during Penn State's 2-1 win over Indiana and had Schoepfer on the Second Team of District II.
Schoepfer, who has already been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks in addition to receiving a spot on the Soccer America Team of the Week, piles on the awards in October. The Academic All-District accolade is the second of her career for the senior forward out of Connecticut and she was the only Nittany Lion named to the squad.
The academic teams take into account a student-athlete's performance in the classroom, community and on the field. Schoepfer was a second-team honoree a year ago along with Jessie Davis. Zoe Bouchelle was on the first team in 2008. Fellow teammate Alyssa Naeher (Seymour, Conn.) garnered second-team honors in 2007 as a sophomore.
Penn State (10-5-2, 6-1-1 Big Ten) currently sits in first place with rival Ohio State atop the Big Ten standings after a 2-1 away win at Indiana. Both teams are in action on Sunday as Ohio State welcomes Indiana and Penn State hosts Purdue on Senior Day at Jeffrey Field. Game time is set for Noon.
