UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lions head south this weekend to Macon, Ga., for the third annual Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship, hosted by Mercer University. The tournament will be played on the Brickyard at Riverside, Oct. 10-12.
Brickyard at Riverside, designed by former PGA tour pro Mark McCumber, spans 7,128-yards with difficulty set at a par 72. The competitive 15-team field will compete in the three-day, 54-hole tournament, beginning with a practice round on Friday, Oct. 9.
In its first appearance at the Brickyard, Penn State placed sixth among the 15-team field, led by returning players; Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) and Nick Archambault (Q.C., Canada), both placed tied for 17 among the best in the country. Georgia looks to defend their title, as it was the 2008-team champion.
This year's field includes Georgia (8), Georgia Tech (15), Florida State (14), three top-20 Nike Coaches Poll teams, as well as ranked Augusta State (25), Chattanooga (21) and Clemson (23). Other teams include LSU, Michigan, Mississippi, UNF, Mercer, Charlotte, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia Tech.
"The Brickyard is another excellent field this year," said head coach Greg Nye. "It is played on Bermuda grass and we will need to hit fairways and greens, to avoid the unfamiliar Bermuda rough."
Tee times for Sat., Sun., and Mon. will begin at 8:30 a.m. off of the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. For Penn State player updates visit GoPSUSports.com. For more tournament information visit www.brickyardcollegiate.org.
