Wilson Named Big Ten Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior middle hitter Arielle Wilson (Broadview, Ill.) was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.

The honor is the sixth of Wilson's career and brings Penn State's total Big Ten Player of the Week accolades to 68 since joining the conference for the 1991 season. This is the sixth weekly honor for the squad this season as senior Megan Hodge was named the Player of the Week on Sept. 21, freshman Darcy Dorton was honored three times as the freshman of the week and Wilson was the Player of the Week on Sept. 28.

Wilson guided the Nittany Lions to two wins this past weekend to extend Penn State's NCAA-record winning streak to 80 matches. Against Iowa on Friday, Oct. 2, Wilson posted 14 kills on .571 hitting and led the team with eight blocks. She also notched one dig and one assists against the Hawkeyes. On Saturday, Oct. 3 versus Wisconsin, Wilson registered seven kills on .333 hitting and tied for first on the team with six blocks.

For the weekend, Wilson totaled 21 kills for a 3.00 kills per set average and a .472 attack percentage. She led the squad with 14 blocks, averaging 2.00 blocks per set. Wilson currently leads the Big Ten with a .575 hitting percentage and 1.49 blocks per set.
