Coppersmith and Crouter to Serve as Pink Zone Honorary Chairwomen

Penn State Lady Lion basketball coach Coquese Washington announced today that local businesswoman Mimi Barash Coppersmith and Dr. Nan Crouter, the Raymond E. and Erin Stuart Schultz Dean of the College of Health and Human Development, will serve as honorary chairwomen for the 2010 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State. Both Coppersmith and Crouter are long-time breast cancer survivors.

Coppersmith has been the chairman of the Barash Group since 2000 after serving as president for 25 years. She is very active in the community, earning honors such as Penn State Distinguished Alumna (1998), Central Pennsylvania Entrepreneur of the Year (1997), Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania (1990) and Pennsylvania Small Business Person of the Year (1981). Coppersmith is currently a member of the board of directors for Mount Nittany Medical Center Foundation and Girl Scouts USA. Coppersmith graduated from Penn State with a degree in journalism. She also completed her classroom requirements toward a master's in speech at Penn State.

Crouter has held the position of Dean of the College of Health and Human Development since June 2007. She came to Penn State in 1981 as an assistant professor of human development before being promoted to associate professor in 1987 and professor of human development in 1993. Crouter's emphasis throughout her career has been on work and family in different populations and ages. Crouter earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and English from Stanford and received her doctorate in human development and family studies from Cornell.

The 2010 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m., as the Lady Lions take on Illinois in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game can be seen on www.bigtennetwork.com. The first three Pink Zone events have raised more than $80,000 for breast cancer awareness. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The Lady Lions open the regular season at Drexel on Friday before returning home to face NJIT on Sunday at 2 p.m. Penn State fans that attend the Indiana football game can use their football ticket to receive buy one ticket, get one free ticket for the game against the Highlanders.
