UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., - Penn State center Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville) is featured in the November issue of Sports Illustrated Kids.
A junior majoring in secondary education, a story on Wisniewski and his typical weekday during the football season appears in the magazine. A 2008 second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, Wisniewski is on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Teen Bonus Section that appears inside this month's SI Kids.
Wisniewski owns a superlative 3.89 grade point average in the Schreyer Honors College. This semester, he is student teaching at State College Area High School, teaching 10th grade English. Last week, the former Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School standout was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team, placing him on the national ballot for the second consecutive year, along with teammates Jeremy Boone, Josh Hull and Andrew Pitz
Wisniewski is one of the squad's most active members in campus and community service, including: THON Make-A-Wish program, SAAB Autism Awareness reading program, Pennsylvania Special Olympics State Summer Games, Habitat for Humanity, Athletic Director's Leadership Institute and Athletes In Action.
In his first season as the Nittany Lions' center, Wisniewski has started every game. He started 12 contests at guard in 2008. He has helped Penn State rank No. 2 in the Big Ten at 406.3 yards per game, with three games of more than 500 yards. The Nittany Lions (8-2, 4-2) have scored at least 28 points seven times this season.
Coach Joe Paterno's No. 18 Nittany Lions play their final home game of the season on Saturday, hosting Indiana (4-6, 1-5) at 12:00 p.m. It's Senior Day and 18 Nittany Lion seniors will be introduced in a pre-game ceremony. The contest will air on the Big Ten Network, the Penn State Sports Network and GoPSUsports.com.
