Naeher Named One of the Top Goalkeeper Prospects for 2010 WPS Draft

Dec. 16, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--Alyssa Naeher (Seymour, Conn.) was mentioned as one of the top goalkeeper prospects for the upcoming 2010 Women's Professional Soccer draft. The draft is set for Jan. 15, 2010 in Philadelphia.

Naeher, a three-time NSCAA All-American, is a hot prospect coming out of college as she is a former FIFA Gold Glove winner as well as a U-20 World Cup winner. She was recently tabbed with her third All-American accolade, a third team nod, earlier this month. Previously, Naeher was a two-time First Team All-American.

Along with Ashlyn Harris of North Carolina and Kristin Olsen of Southern California, Naeher was named a No. 1 goalkeeper by one of the five media reporters for the WPS. Scott French of The Soccer Magazine cast his top vote for Naeher, while Paul Kennedy of Soccer America, Dan Lauletta of womensprosoccer.com and Mark Rogondino of Fox Soccer Channel tabbed her second.

Womensprosoccer.com will run a weekly feature highlighting a position and ranking its top five prospects. Other Nittany Lion prospects include forwards Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.) and Nikki Watts (Hungerford, England), midfielders Melissa Hayes (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and Alli Rago (Fairfield, Conn.), as well as defenders Tara Davies (Cape May Court House, N.J.) and Maura Ryan (Doylestown, Pa.).
