Schoepfer Named First Team NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-American

Dec. 21, 2009

KANSAS CITY, Kan.--Senior forward Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.) reined in yet another accolade to a career-year by being named a First Team NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-American this week. She is the first Nittany Lion first-team honoree since Aubrey Aden-Buie in 2007.

Schoepfer, who earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, NSCAA First Team All-Great Lakes region recognition as well as NSCAA Third Team All-America honors, gathered her first NSCAA Scholar All-America honor. To be honored for the team a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale throughout her career as well as start more than 50 percent of a team's games, while being a junior or a senior.

Schoepfer joins the likes of Aden-Buie, Erin McLeod (2005), Joanna Lohman and Heidi Drummond (2002-03), Christie Welsh (2002) and Emily Oleksiuk (2001) on the all-time Nittany Lion list of NSCAA Scholar Athlete First Team recipients. Additionally, Schoepfer was a M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Semifinalist as well as a candidate for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

Schoepfer wrapped up a training camp with the U.S. U-23 National Team in Carson, Calif. earlier this month while awaiting the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer draft in January. She will be honored as part of the NSCAA Convention at the All-America Luncheon to be held Jan. 16, 2010 in Philadelphia.
