UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's gymnastics team opens its 2010 season on Friday, Jan. 8 in a quad meet at Michigan State. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. Penn State takes on the Spartans, Western Michigan and West Virginia.
Penn State vs. Michigan State
The Nittany Lions own a 23-4 record versus the Spartans in a series dating back to 1965. Last season, the Lions defeated MSU 195.875-194.175 at Rec Hall on Jan. 24. The teams met a second time at the Big Ten Championships where the Nittany Lions finished third with a score of 196.525 and the Spartans placed sixth with a score of 195.650.
Penn State vs. Western Michigan
Friday will mark the first meeting between Penn State and Western Michigan.
Penn State vs. West Virginia
Penn State is 27-5 against the Mountaineers. The squads first met in 1979. Last season, Penn State defeated WVU by a score of 196.225-195.925. The Nittany Lions have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the two programs.

The Nittany Lions are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Denver. Action is for 6 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET). Penn State hosts Cornell, Iowa and Yale in its home opener on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall.
