UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--The Penn State swimming & diving squads travel to Pittsburgh today for a two-day meet against Pitt, Maryland and Villanova to open the 2010 season at Trees Pool. Live stats will be held for the quad-meet.
Penn State returned from a training trip in Florida, which included a training meet against Florida State. The Nittany Lions take on Pittsburgh and Maryland on both sides of competition, while the Villanova women also compete. Diving kicks off tonight's competition at 4 p.m., while Saturday's action starts at 10 a.m.
The Pittsburgh women enter today's meet at 3-2 in dual-meet competition and a sixth-place showing at the OSU Invitational. The Panthers have common opponents with the Nittany Lions, beating St. Bonaventure (254-44) and losing to West Virginia (165-133). PSU's women also beat SBU (174-60) and West Virginia (74-39).
On the men's side, Pitt beat SBU (159-139) and lost to West Virginia (154.5-145) and finished sixth in the OSU Invitational behind Penn State. The Lions defeated St. Bona, 144-97, and West Virginia, 145-96, while finishing fifth at the OSU Invitational.
The Maryland men come into today's meet at 2-5 overall having dropped a hard-fought 160-129 dual against Navy. The women, on the other hand, come in with an impressive 7-1 record with a solid 167-129 victory over Rutgers last weekend. The Villanova women begin competition with a 4-3 record after a 175-125 win against Georgetown on Dec. 5.
