WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Penn State men's gymnastics team capped off a strong showing at the 2010 West Point Open on Saturday night, as five different Nittany Lions captured titles in the individual event finals portion of the two-day competition. On Friday, PSU dominated the field of east coast squads, claiming its 12th consecutive West Point Open team title.

Freshmen Felix Aronovich (Kiryat Bialik, Israel) and Nick Grant (Butler, Pa.) and sophomore Miguel Pineda (Galloway, Ohio) followed up event winning performances from the team finals with individual wins. Aronovich placed first in the pommel horse, garnering his third consecutive title in the event. He also finished in third in the parallel bars. Grant also continued his excellent start to his collegiate career, claiming at least a share of a third straight floor exercise crown in addition to placing second in the vault. Pineda won the still rings with a score of 14.500.

Other individual event title winners included senior Noam Shaham (Kfar Saba, Israel) (vault) and junior Matt Albrecht (Guelph, Ont.) (parallel bars).

Seniors Nick Virbitsky (Harrisburg, Pa.) (floor exercise) and Matt Greenfield (Villanova, Pa.) (high bar) and freshmen Scott Rosenthal (Cleafield, Pa.) (still rings) and Mackenzie Dow (Cranford, N.J.) (pommel horse) secured second place finishes. Dow and fellow freshman Tony Beck (Catasauqua, Pa.) completed 1-2-3 sweeps in the vault and pommel horse, respectively, with third place finishes.

The Nittany Lions remain on the road next weekend, opening Ten competition in Ann Arbor, Mich. versus 2009 NCAA runner-up and preseason No. 4-ranked Michigan. The dual meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sun., Jan. 24 at the home of the Wolverines, Cliff Keen Arena. A year ago, behind four title wins from Casey Sandy, Penn State edged Michigan, 348.900-348.350, in a back-and-forth, down-to-the-wire, thriller at Rec Hall.
