Women's Gymnastics Takes Second at Denver's Winterfest Classic

DENVER, Colo. - The Penn State women's gymnastics team earned a second place finish at Denver's Winterfest Classic. The Nittany Lions recorded a score 194.150. Denver took first at the meet with a score 194.650 and Air Force took third with a score of 185.850.

The Nittany Lions posted a team score of 48.950 on vault, 48.700 the uneven bars, 47.800 on the balance beam and 48.700 on floor. Denver totaled 48.600 on vault, 48.650 on bars, 48.550 on beam and 48.850 on floor, while Air Force put up a score of 47.175 on vault, 47.350 on bars, 44.525 on beam and 46.800 on floor.

Senior Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) led the team in the all-around with a second place finish with a score of 38.775. Sophomore Whitney Bencsko (Pompton Plains, N.J.) finished fourth with a 38.200 and freshman Sharaya Musser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished fifth with a score of a 37.900. Denver's Brianna Artemev won the all-around title with a 39.150.

Personett and Bencsko led the Nittany Lions on vault taking the top two spots. Personett scored a 9.900 and Bencsko scored a 9.800. Musser tied for third for PSU in the event with a 9.775 and senior Rosie Smith (Waterford, Pa.) placed fifth with a 9.750. Senior Casey Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove, Pa.) scored a 9.725 on vault to finish tied for sixth and junior Danielle Hover (Hamburg, N.Y.) tied for eighth with a 9.700.

Musser and sophomore Natalie Ettl (Waukesha, Wis.) finished tied for second on the uneven bars. The pair scored a 9.825. Personett scored a 9.750 to take sixth, while Smith took eight with a 9.675. Senior Alexandra Brockway (Macungie, Pa.) placed ninth with a 9.625 and Bencsko rounded out the Nittany Lion performers in 16th place with a 9.050.

Senior Allie Southard (Nanuet, N.Y.) led the Nittany Lions on beam tying for first with a 9.775. Rohrbaugh took sixth with a 9.625 and sophomore Daryl Konsevick (Rutherford, N.J.) placed seventh with a 9.600. Bencsko tied for eighth with a score of 9.575, while Musser and Personett tied with a score of 9.225 for 12th place in the event.

Personnet tied for first on the floor with a 9.900 with Denver's Kristina Coccia. Rohrbaugh tied for fourth with 9.800 and Bencsko tied for sixth wit a 9.775. Southard placed 11th with a 9.650 and Konsevick finished 12th with a 9.575. Musser finished 16th on floor with a 9.075.

What's Next
The Nittany Lions are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 23 when they host Cornell, Iowa and Yale in a quad meet at Rec Hall. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m.
