Lady Lions Host Illinois in Fourth Annual WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State Game Sunday

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State Lady Lions (14-4, 6-2) are riding their longest win streak since the 2004-05 campaign as they head into Sunday's WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State game with Illinois at 1 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. This is the Fourth Annual Pink Zone game and it promises to be a record-breaking event. The game can be heard locally on WRSC and is available as a live streaming event on BigTenNetwork.com for $2.99.

GIVEAWAY/PROMOTION: The first 2,000 fans will receive a Pink Lady Lion Basketball water bottle. Penn State students will receive buy one ticket, get one ticket free with valid ID and the first 100 PSU students will get an official Pink Zone t-shirt, courtesy of the Lady Lion Cager Club. For every single-game ticket sold to Sunday's contest, $2 will be donated to the Pink Zone fundraising efforts.

RADIO/WEB: The game is on WRSC with Jerry Fisher and Kellie Goodman calling the action. The audio feed is available at www.GoPSUsports.com. The contest will also be available on BigTenNetwork.com via a live video stream for $2.99. The game will be rebroadcast as a Student U production on the Big Ten Network on Tues., Jan. 26 at 9 a.m.

LIVE AUCTION: The Lady Lions will hold a live jersey auction following Sunday's to sell their special game-worn Pink Zone jerseys to the highest bidder. All proceeds benefit Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

LAST TIME OUT: After being shutout in the first half, senior Tyra Grant scored 14 second-half points to push the Lady Lions to a 54-43 victory over Wisconsin Thursday. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Lady Lions in the Kohl Center and gives Coquese Washington a career-high 14 wins. Grant filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, five rebounds, one block and two steals. Junior Julia Trogele added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists, while freshman Alex Bentley added 12 points and three helpers to round out the double-digit scorers for Penn State.

SCOUTING ILLINOIS: The Illini are 11-7 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play, but have dropped their last three games. Jenna Smith averages a double-double with 19.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game to lead Illinois. Karisma Penn is also averaging double figures for the Illini at an 11.6 per game clip. Lacey Simpson is a solid all-around player for the Illini, averaging 9.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.

ALL-TIME VS. ILLINI: The Lady Lions are 23-14 all-time against the Illini, including a 13-2 mark in home games. Penn State is 17-11 all-time in Big Ten regular-season games versus Illinois. The Illini have won the last two games in the series with a 69-60 victory on New Year's Eve and a 58-49 decision in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Tyra Grant led three Lady Lions in double figures with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists in the New Year's Eve loss, while Nikki Greene equaled her career high with 12 points.

LAST TIME VS. ILLINOIS: The Lady Lions struggled to find their rhythm offensively in a 69-60 loss at Illinois on Dec. 31, 2009. Senior guard Tyra Grant led three Lady Lions in double figures with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Nikki Greene equaled her career high with 12 points that included a 3-for-4 effort from the field and a 6-for-8 mark from the free throw line. She also pulled in seven rebounds and blocked a pair of shots. Fellow freshman Alex Bentley also reached double-digits with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

BIG TEN Ws: Just eight games into the Big Ten Conference season, the Lady Lions have tied their number of conference wins for all of last season with their sixth victory of the year at Wisconsin on Jan. 21. The win was also the fifth consecutive overall for the Lions and the third-straight road win, the longest winning streaks since 2004-05. The five road wins for Penn State are also the most since the 2004-05 campaign.

JULES FROM 3: Junior guard Julia Trogele hit a career-high three shots from beyond the arc in the win at Wisconsin on Jan. 21. She finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Trogele also surpassed the 400-point mark for her career against the Badgers.

QUESE SETS COACHING WIN MARK: The Lady Lions won their 14th game of the season against Wisconsin Thursday night, giving head coach Coquese Washington the most wins in a season during her tenure. Washington's previous personal mark for wins was a 13-18 record in 2007-08.

LADY LIONS VS. MICHIGAN MOVED: The game time for the Penn State vs. Michigan game at the Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday, Feb. 18 has been moved to 6:30 p.m. to accommodate a live broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

The Lady Lions return to the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, Jan. 24 for the Fourth Annual WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State against Illinois at 1 p.m. Penn State will donate $2 from every single-game ticket sold to the Pink Zone to the fundraising cause.
