Lady Lion Signee Lucas Selected for McDonald's All-America Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State Lady Lion signee Maggie Lucas (Narbeth, Pa./Germantown Academy) is one of 24 players that has been selected to play in the ninth annual girls McDonald's All-American High School Game. Lucas will play for the East team in the game that will take place on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Value City Arena. The girls game will tip at 5:30 p.m. and be broadcast live on ESPNU. Lucas is the second McDonald's High School All-American in school history and is one of two Big Ten recruits on the 2010 McDonald's All-America team.

"This is a great honor for Maggie. The McDonald's All-American Game is one of the biggest and best stages for a high school senior to compete on and showcases the country's elite players," head coach Coquese Washington said. "Maggie has had an outstanding high school career and we are thrilled to have her joining our Lady Lion family next year."

"Year after year I am impressed with the extraordinary high school talent the McDonald's All American Games brings to the forefront of the basketball world," said Alonzo Mourning, captain of the McDonald's All American Advisory Council. "These young athletes will not only get the chance to become basketball stars of the next generation, but more importantly they will be provided the opportunity to bring attention and raise money for an important cause and learn essential life lessons off the court."

Proceeds from the 2010 McDonald's All American High School Basketball Games will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of Central Ohio. Millions of dollars have been raised since the first Game was played in 1978. Every athlete who participates in the McDonald's All American Games will visit the host city's local RMHC Chapter to experience first-hand how the Games impact the local community. Millions of dollars have been raised since the games' inception.

Lucas is one of four newcomers in Coquese Washington's 2010 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 20 by ESPN HoopGurlz. Edwards is joined by Ariel Edwards (Elmont, N.Y./Christ the King), Talia East (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central) and transfer Mia Nickson (Ashburn, Va./Notre Dame Academy/Boston College). Both Edwards and East were nominees for the 2010 McDonald's All-American Game.

The Lady Lions travel to Purdue on Sunday at 2 p.m., before returning home to face Michigan on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. It will be Beach Day in the Bryce Jordan Center with fans wearing a Hawaiian shirt will get in for $5. The 2010 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State took place on Sunday, Jan. 24 when the Lady Lions take on Illinois in the Bryce Jordan Center. The first three Pink Zone events have raised more than $80,000 for breast cancer awareness. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The Lady Lions hold several camps throughout the summer. There is a Lady Lion Basketball Camp available for girls of all ages, ranging from shooting camp to elite camp.
