Penn State Coaching Staff to Conduct Annual Football Coaches Clinic April 9-10

Feb. 12, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., - Head coach Joe Paterno and his staff will again welcome several hundred coaches for Penn State's Annual Football Coaches Clinic, set for April 9-10 on the University Park campus.

The clinic will feature lectures and demonstrations by Paterno and the entire Nittany Lions' staff, who have guided Penn State to 51 victories during the past five seasons, tied for the nation's seventh-highest win total. Penn State has won two Big Ten Championships and BCS berths since 2005, with victories in the 2010 Capital One Bowl, 2006 FedEx Orange Bowl, 2007 Outback Bowl and the 2007 Valero Alamo Bowl and a berth in the 2009 Rose Bowl.

Penn State's annual spring gathering traditionally draws more than 800 high school and youth league coaches from all parts of the country and beyond the United States border.

The 2010 spring clinic will feature sessions with the Nittany Lions' offensive and defensive coaching staffs and provide on-field demonstrations with members of the Nittany Lions' squad, which will be in the midst of spring drills. Clinic attendees will have an opportunity to observe a practice on Friday, April 9 and an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, April 10 in Beaver Stadium.

In addition, the clinic will include a presentation by Penn State's strength and conditioning staff. A special session on speed and movement with the Nittany Lions' speed coach also will be offered as part of the program agenda, in addition to a session devoted to special teams.

The clinic costs $75 per person and includes clinic materials, Friday's dinner in the Mount Nittany Lounge at Beaver Stadium and a coaches' Friday night social in the stadium.

Coaches interested in attending the clinic can receive further information and a brochure by calling 814-865-0561, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m or by visiting: http://www.outreach.psu.edu/psu-sport-camps/football-coaches/

Penn State was No. 8 in the final USA Today Coaches poll and No. 9 in the Associated Press survey, earning its 23rd final Top 10 ranking under Paterno. The Lions won at least 11 games for the 15th time under the Hall of Fame coach.

Entering his 45th season as head coach and 61st on the Penn State coaching staff, Paterno returns 38 letterwinners and 13 starters for the 2010 season, as well as 11 players that have starting experience. Penn State opens the season Sept. 4 vs. Youngstown State in Beaver Stadium and visits 2009 national champion Alabama on Sept. 11.
