No. 55 Oklahoma Blanks Women's Tennis, 7-0

NORMAN, Okla.; - The Penn State women's tennis team fell to another ranked opponent today, dropping a 7-0 decision to the No. 55 Oklahoma Sooners at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion.

Oklahoma opened the match with an early 1-0 lead after taking two of three doubles matches. Katelyn Connelly and Marie-Pier Hunt took an 8-3 victory over freshman Sarah Henderson (Auckland, New Zealand) and sophomore Michaela Stracar (Jericho, N.Y.) in third doubles. Next on the No. 1 court, seniors Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Canada) and Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) dropped an 8-2 decision to the nation's No. 39 doubles pair of Ana-Maria Constatninescu and Teona Tsertsvadze, sealing the doubles point for the Sooners.

Following in third doubles, freshman Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) and sophomore Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) topped Tara Eckel and Maria Kalashnikova in second doubles, 7-6 (5).

Following in singles play, Constantinescu, the nation's No. 56 singles player, topped Januskova in first singles, 6-4, 6-0.With Oklahoma leading 2-0, Kalashnikova handed Lotto a 6-3, 6-0 loss in third singles. Kristen Radan sealed the match victory for the Sooners with a 6-1, 6-2 No. 5 singles win over Henderson.

Stracar held her own in sixth singles, battling back and forth with Eckel in the first set but eventually falling in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-2. McCarthy kept pace with Tsertsvadze in fourth singles, falling 7-5 in a tight first set, but Tsertsvadze stormed ahead to take a 6-1 win in the second set to put Oklahoma ahead 6-0.

On the No. 2 court, Prishlyak fell to Huet in the first set, 6-2, but bounced back and forced a tie in the second set at 5-5. However, Huet rallied to 7-5 and took the straight-set win, completing the singles sweep for the Sooners.

Penn State is back at home on Friday to host Marshall at 5 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center. The Lions have another home match on Sunday against Boise State at noon. Admission to all Penn State home matches is free. Next weekend, the team travels to Richmond, Va. on Saturday, Feb. 27 for a 4 p.m. match.
