Nittany Lions in Eighth Following Day One of Big Ten Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Despite swimming to season-best and "NCAA B" times in both events, the Penn State women's swimming & diving team stands in eighth following Wednesday's action at the Big Ten Championships. The Nittany Lions placed seventh in the 800 freestyle relay and eighth in the 200 medley relay in the only action from day one.

Freshmen Paige Whitmire (Lederach, Pa.) and Merritt Krawczyk (Kingwood, Texas) teamed with senior Michelle Myers (Boalsburg, Pa.) and sophomore Samantha Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.) to finish eighth in the 200 medley relay with a B time of 1:41.62.

In the second and final event of the day, seniors Lyndsey Smith (Westminster, Md.), Lindsey DeForrest (Wycombe, Pa.) and Stephanie Roop (Downingtown, Pa.) teamed with freshman Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) to place seventh in the 800 freestyle relay with another B mark of 7:15.21.

Thursday's action continues with the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and one-meter diving. Click here for the complete heat sheets.
