Heavy Rain Ends Softball's Game against No. 1 Washington Prematurely

Feb. 21, 2010

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--The Penn State softball team wrapped up its time at the 20th Annual Campbell/Cartier Classic having its game against No. 1 Washington rained out mid-way through the matchup. Heavy, intermittent rain showers forced a postponement entering the fourth inning and a cancellation shortly thereafter.

Penn State (6-3) had battled NFCA Player of the Year Daneille Lawrie and her Washington (7-1) team to a scoreless draw through the first three innings. Jackie Hill (San Jose, Calif.) had tossed three scoreless innings herself in keeping the Huskies off the board. Lawrie had done the same allowing two hits and Mary Ostman (Northbrook, Ill.) to reach third after a single, a sac bunt and a ground out.

The Nittany Lions will hit the road next weekend when they play at the ECU Pirate Classic in Greenville, N.C. starting Saturday, February 28. PSU opens the tournament against Towson and Delaware. First pitch is slated for 10:00 a.m. ET and the game can be followed through Gametracker and Twitter (@PSULionSoftball).
