Women's Swimming & Diving Concludes Big Ten Championships in Seventh

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Penn State women's swimming & diving team concluded a strong performance at the Big Ten Championships Saturday, finishing seventh with 333 points. The Nittany Lions posted eight "NCAA B" times on the final day, led by senior Kailey Morris (Baltimore, Md.) who was Penn State's high point scorer over the four day championship.

Morris concluded her strong weekend with a fifth place and "NCAA B" finish (1:58.75) in the 200 butterfly which is also among the top 10 times in school history. Junior Alexandra Young (Carmel, Ind.) reached the B finals where she finished 13th (2:01.46).

The Lions also saw two swimmers crack "NCAA B" times in the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke. Senior Stephanie Roop (Downingtown, Pa.) led the way in the freestyle, finishing sixth with a mark of 16:22.24. Junior Diana Greco (Chester Springs, Pa.) wasn't far behind, placing 11th (16:32.88).

Freshman Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) impressed in one of her strongest events (200 backstroke), coming in seventh with a B time of 1:56.91. Senior Daphne Skelos (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) was 11th (1:57.68).

Another impressive freshman, Merritt Krawczyk (Kingwood, Texas), paced Penn State in the 200 breaststroke with a B time of 2:14.92, good for 10th in program history. Senior Lyndsey Smith (Westminster, Md.) reached the B finals where she finished 10th with an NCAA qualifying time of 2:15.22.

Sophomore Samantha Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.), senior Lindsey DeForrest (Wycombe, Pa.) and sophomore Erin Thomas (Bangor, Maine) finished 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively in the 100 freestyle, all coming within 0.38 seconds of one another.

The weekend concluded with the 400 freestyle relay in which Thomas, freshman Paige Whitmire (Lederach, Pa.), DeForrest and Palser placed eighth with an "NCAA B" time of 3:21.24.
