UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's soccer team opened its spring season on Saturday night in an impressive 4-1 win over West Virginia at Holuba Hall. PSU was led by Danielle Toney (Northville, Mich.), Maddy Evans (Glenside, Pa.), Julie Hubbard (Waverly, Pa.) and Kristin Hartmann (Katy, Texas).
Penn State had an excellent offensive showing in its spring debut as Toney struck for two goals. Adding tallies in the 4-1 win were Evans and Hubbard with one each, while Christine Nairn (Arnold, Md.) added an assist.
Hartmann and Krissy Tribbett (Centennial, Colo.) split time in net, with Hartmann pitching a shutout in the second half highlighted with a spectacular save to keep the Mountaineers out of the back of the net.
Following the match, a free youth clinic for children in kindergarten to eighth grade took place. Additionally, a match jersey signed by the team was also given away to a lucky fan.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action Mar. 20 to take on Virginia Tech in Richmond, Va. Time for that game has yet to be determined.
