UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After completing their fall tournaments with a fourth place finish at the Spider Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond, the Nittany Lions are now headed to Puerto Rico for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

"When I look at this tournament, it's not going to hurt us wherever we fall at the end of the day and it can only help us," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "Playing against competition that, this year, is ranked ahead of us is to our advantage. These guys, potentially, have the ability to certainly hang."

Freshman Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) will lead the Nittany Lions with her 77.3 strokes-per-round average. Freshman Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) will also make the trip to Puerto Rico.

Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.), who leads upperclassmen with her 79.1 strokes per round, will also be participating. Senior Katherine Murphy (Portsmouth, R.I.) and junior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) round out the field for the Nittany Lions.

The tournament will take place in Rio Grande, P.R., and will be hosted by Purdue. St. Pierre expects Auburn, Texas and Alabama to be some of the powerhouse schools in the 16-team tournament. Purdue was the winner of the 2009 tournament with Maria Hernandez of Purdue and Laura Nochta of Indiana finishing in a tie for the individual title.

The tournament will consist of three rounds at the par-72, 6,219 yard Coco Beach Golf Course. It will take place on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, February 7, 8 and 9.
