Women's Golf Team Finishes First Round of Lady Puerto Rico Classic

The Penn State women's golf team is currently in 16th place in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic after a first round score of 319. The tournament, which is taking place in Rio Grande, P.R., is currently led by the University of Georgia who shot a 292 in the first round.

Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) is in a tie for 26th place following the first round. Her round of 76 ties her lowest single round score this season, the other coming at the Spider Invitational. Freshman Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) finished just one stroke behind Fanelli with a score of 77, leaving her in a tie for 37th place.

Junior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy), freshman Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior Katherine Murphy (Portsmouth, R.I.) finished with first round scores of 82, 84 and 98 respectively.

Purdue's Thea Hoffmeister, who is competing as an individual, is currently in the lead with a score of 66 in the first round, leaving her at six under par. The second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic will tee off tomorrow, February 8 and the third and final round will take place on February 9.
