On Second Day at NCAAs, Alden Finishes 27th in 200 Freestyle

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Penn State men's and swimming team's lone participant, Brian Alden (Lansdale, Pa.), took part on his second day of competition on Saturday at the NCAA Championships. Alden finished 27th in the 200 freestyle at McCorkle Pavilion.

The sophomore freestyle specialist entered Saturday's competition with a seed time of 1:35.49. After a strong first 100 yards in which Alden swam 46.15, the ninth-fastest split of the preliminaries, he fell off the pace to finish in a time of 1:36.27.

Alden's 27th place showing was 11 spots off of qualifying for the evening's finals. The final spot in the finals was swum in a time of 1:35.03.

Alden will compete in the third and final day of competition on Sunday at Ohio State University when the 100 freestyle takes place. Alden is seeded 43rd in the event.
