Following the first round of the Rio Verde Collegiate in Rio Verde, Ariz., the Penn State golf team is currently in a tie for 14th place. The Nittany Lions put together a score of 317.
Freshman Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) finished the first day as the top Nittany Lion after recording a score of 74 in the first round, good for a tie for 9th place. Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) followed Ransone with an 18-hole score of 78, leaving her in a tie for 42nd place.
Freshman Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) finished the first day with a score of 82 and a tie for 72nd place. Junior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) and freshman Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) followed close behind, each putting together a score of 83. They are currently in a tie for 79th place.
Michigan currently leads the field as they notched a first-round score of 291, four strokes ahead of Arkansas-Little Rock. After the first round, Michigan's Ashley Bauer leads all golfers with a three-under-par 68.
Play will resume tomorrow, with the second of three rounds starting at 8a.m. MST. The third and final round will take place on Sunday, March 7.
