UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Freshman Sharaya Musser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named the Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Week, conference officials announced. This is the seventh honor for the Nittany Lions this season. Senior Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) has been the gymnast of the week five times and Musser was the freshman of the week on Feb. 15.
Musser was a catalyst in Penn State's victory on Sunday, March 7 against No. 12 Michigan, Maryland and Bridgeport. Competing in the all-around for just the third time this season, Musser scored a personal-best 39.600 to take the crown. Musser won her second individual event title on vault with a career-high 9.975 and her third on beam with a personal-best 9.925.
