Musser and Personett Post All-America Status at Nationals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Penn State women's gymnasts senior Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) and freshman Sharaya Musser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) combined for seven NACGC/W All-America honors at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, April 22. Personett earned three All-America honors, while Musser accrued four.

Personett earned First Team All-America status on beam, floor and in the all-around. She has now accumulated five All-America honors, as she was a 2008 All-American on beam and a 2009 All-American on floor. Musser garnered First Team All-America status on vault and in the all-around, while earning Second Team All-America laurels on beam and floor. The Nittany Lions now have 84 total individual All-Americans.

Competing with Utah, Musser opened the first session of the NCAA Championships on floor where she scored a 9.875. In rotation two, Musser earned a vault score of 9.900. After a bye in the third rotation, Musser moved on to bars scoring a 9.825. Musser closed out the first session on beam with a 9.850.

Personett rotated with host Florida in the second session. Following a bye to open the meet, Personett scored a 9.825 before turning in a 9.875 on beam. She and the Gators had a bye in rotation four before moving to floor. Personett posted a 9.900 on floor and scored a 9.875 on vault to close out the session.

The women's gymnastics championships consist of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and individual event specialists. The top two teams and the top two all-arounders from each of the six regionals received automatic berths to the national championships. The top four individuals (plus ties) on each event, including the all-around from each session, qualify to compete in the Individual Event Finals on Saturday, April 24 at 6 p.m. at Florida's Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
