LYNCHBURG, Va.: April 3, 2010 - Sophomore Anya Uzoh (Laurel, Md.) scored a fifth-place finish in his first decathlon of the 2010 season, Saturday at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Liberty University. The sophomore totaled 6079 points over ten events, placing fourth among collegiate.
Uzoh began the day with running a personal-best 15.99 for the 110-meter hurdles, earning 734 points with the fifth-best effort in the field. The sophomore continued with an effort of 111-0 (33.84) in the discus - another career best - and worth another 541 points.
Uzoh failed to clear a bar in the pole vault, but rebounding by matching his lifetime best in the javelin with a toss of 152-10 (46.58) and claiming another 538 points. He finished off the two-day competition running 5:00.26 in the 1500-meters, adding another 558 points to his total.
Uzoh and the rest of the Nittany Lions will be back in action next weekend at the Sun Angel Track Classic at Arizona State University. Action is slated for Saturday, April 10, in Tempe, Ariz.
