UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State women's tennis team kicks off the 2010 season at the fourth annual Midland Tournament starting Friday. The tournament, which runs through Sunday, takes place in Midland, Texas and features some of the top talent from across the country.
Penn State is the lone Big Ten school competing this weekend, as it competes in a field of 18 teams in both singles and doubles matches. This marks the first time the Nittany Lions have competed in the Midland Tournament held at the Racquet Club in Midland, Texas.
Competition begins with Denisa Zobeideh and Fernanda Perrotta squaring off against Boise State's Lauren Megale and Stephanie Jasper. Also competing in the first round of doubles play is the pairing of Sarah Henderson and Maria Prishlyak against Texas-Arlington's Giada D'Ortona and Daiana Negreanu. The doubles pairing of Petra Januskova and Amy Simidian is ranked fourth in the tournament and received a first round bye.
Januskova has also been awarded a bye in the first round of singles play, as she is the fourth-ranked player in the tournament.
Penn State has eight players competing in the singles tournament, the most of any team competing in the tournament

- Carmen Sandor vs. Tara Panu, Pepperdine
- Maria Prishlyak vs. Jo-Anne Karaitiana, Tulsa
- Sarah Henderson vs. Janine Weinreich, Nebraska
- Petra Januskova - First Round Bye
