Cougar Classic Preview

The Nittany Lions will take the course for the first time this season at the Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. The three-round tournament will be played in Hanahan, S.C. The tournament will take place from Sunday, Sept. 12 until Tuesday, Sept. 14.

"I am looking forward to our first tournament of the season," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "The team has been working hard to prepare and competition for the starting spots has been fierce. We feel fortunate to be part of this prestigious collegiate event."

Five Nittany Lions will be in the starting lineup for this event. Senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) will look to lead the team. Ransone finished with a team-best average of 78.1 last season. Fanelli earned a Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor last season.

Senior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) will be the only other upperclassman to start at the tournament. Sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) will also start, along with freshman Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.), who will be playing in her first ever tournament.

The field will consist of 21 schools, with Wisconsin also representing the Big Ten.  The University of North Carolina, University of South Carolina and the University of Mississippi look to provide some of the toughest competition. The tournament will be played on the par 72, 6,210-yard Yeamans Hall Golf Club. There will be three rounds of golf at 18 holes per day. Tee times will be set for Sunday and Monday, with a shotgun start on Tuesday.

Live scoring will be available by Golfstat throughout the tournament.
