UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team will be back in action Monday, Oct. 18 and Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the eighth annual Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by the California Golden Bears in Fairfax, Calif. The tournament will be played at the Meadow Club, which was designed by world famous architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie. The Meadow Club was the first course Dr. MacKenzie designed in America.
Sixteen teams will compete on the 6,608-yard, par-71 field for the two-day, 54-hole tournament. Joining Penn State and California on the field are Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, UC Davis, UC Irvine, University of San Francisco, and Wisconsin.
California took the tournament title last year posting a two-round total of 545, 23-under par. The event was called after two rounds due to inclement weather conditions.
The Nittany Lions will make their second appearance in the tournament, the first being back in 2006. The lineup for Penn State will consist of seniors T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa) and Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.), junior John Burke (Bay Village, Ohio), sophomore Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.), and freshman Michael Miller (Brewster, N.Y.).
Thirty-six holes will be played Monday with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start. Play will continue Tuesday with 8:00 a.m. tee times for the final round. Live scoring for the event will be available at GolfStat . For updates on Penn State players, please visit GoPSUsports.com.
