UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis team will travel to the University of Virginia for the ITA Regional Championships, which will begin on Wednesday and go through Sunday. The tournament will consist of a singles draw with a field of 128 and doubles draw with a field of 64.
The Nittany Lions will have a total of six players participating in both singles and doubles competition. Being featured for the Nittany Lions this week will be senior Eddie Bourchier (Hobart, Australia), junior Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia) and sophomore Bryan Welnetz (Laredo, Texas), junior Taylor Cohen (Philadelphia, Pa.), freshman Harry Seaborn (North Penn, N.Y.) and freshman Russell Bader (Austin, Texas).
Bourchier returns for his senior season after coming off an impressive 2010 season. Bourchier, who earned All-Big Ten honors last season, had a stellar year playing primarily in the No. 1 bout for the Nittany Lions. This fall he has earned five singles victories including the singles and doubles crown at the Princeton Fall Invitational back in September.
Lee and Cohen have had nice fall seasons as well for the Nittany Lions. Lee was victorious with Bourchier at Princeton as they won their doubles flight. Cohen has been undefeated so far this fall in singles action, as he won the Flight "B" singles crown at Princeton as well. Overall, Penn State picked up three championships at the Princeton Fall Invitational.
Following the ITA Regional Championships in Charlottesville, the squad will close the fall season at the Big Ten Singles tournament from Oct. 28-Nov. 1.
