UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's and women's gymnastics team will host "Meet the Team" Night on Wed., Dec. 1 from 7-8 p.m. at the Nittany Lions' training facility located in White Building. The event is free to all attendees and is open to the general public.
The evening will include event demonstrations by both teams and an autograph signing. Also, team posters and 2011 schedule cards will be available and light refreshments will be served.
The Penn State women's gymnastics team, under first-year head coach Jeff Thompson, hosts four home meets in Rec Hall in 2011, including two double-duals with the Nittany Lion men's team. The Nittany Lions, which finished the 2010 season ranked 14th in the country, open 2011 facing one of the top teams in the nation with a meet at Alabama on Jan. 7. From there, the team travels to Michigan on Jan. 14 for a tri-meet with Illinois before returning to Happy Valley for its home opener against New Hampshire in a double-dual with the Nittany Lion men.
Guided by 20-year veteran head coach Randy Jepson, the Penn State men's gymnastics team enters the 2011 campaign ranked No. 7 in the preseason coaches' poll. With 16 of its 21 members possessing one season or less of collegiate experience, the Nittany Lions will be a young but talented squad. Captained by senior Matt Albrecht (Guelph, Ont.), one of just five upperclassmen on the roster, Penn State will open the season on Jan. 8, when it hosts Army in a 7 p.m. dual meet at Rec Hall. Other home dates in 2011 include match-ups with defending national champion Michigan (Jan. 22, 7 p.m.), Springfield College (Feb. 12, 7 p.m.), and Big Ten rival Ohio State (Feb. 26, 1 p.m.).
