WMU Super Challenge Results (Day 2)

KALAMAZOO, Mich.; November 6, 2010 - Sophomore Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) and junior Fernanda Perrotta(Buenos Aires, Argentina) were crowned doubles champions at the WMU Super Challenge after going 3-0 for the Penn State women's tennis team.

The duo defeated Wisconsin's Nicky Stracar and Alaina Trgovich, 8-6 in the third round of doubles play to add to their pair of doubles wins yesterday. Additionally, Januskova and Perrotta both won of their singles matches to remain undefeated throughout the weekend. Januskova beat DePaul's Katarina Milinkovic (6-3, 6-2) and Perrotta defeated DePaul's Samantha Kaneta 6-1, 6-3 in the second round of singles play.

Also in third round doubles play, junior Kristen Roth (Ardmore, Pa.) and sophomore Sarah Henderson (Bloomington, Ind.) defeated Iowa State's Reka Keleman and Nikki Reber (8-2). Sophomore Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J.) and freshman Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada) fell to Wisconsin's Jenny Hois and Aleksandra Markovic in the final round of doubles play (8-3). Freshman Carmen Sandor (Montreal, Canada) and junior Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) were bested by Louisville's Sarah Miller and Rebecca Shine (8-2).

In singles play, Bedard won her second round singles match as she topped DePaul's Gia McKnight (7-6 (1), 6-4). Simidian fell to Selma Salkovic of DePaul (6-4, 6-3), while Prishlyak came up short against DePaul's Christina Raymond (6-2, 7-6 (2)). In other singles action, Roth edged Iowa State's Reka Keleman 8-6 to win her fifth match of the tournament.

The Super Challenge will conclude tomorrow as the Nittany Lions will face off against Western Michigan in singles play.
