Dec. 20, 2010

CHICAGO, Ill. - Former All-Americans Joanna Lohman and Alyssa Naeher were called into January training camp by U.S. Women's National Team head coach Pia Sundhage on Monday.

Lohman and Naeher are apart of 26 players who will compete for 15 spots on the Four Nations Tournament squad. The January training camp is set for Jan. 8-13 at the Hope Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Eight veterans of the full national team have been given rest ahead of the annual event.

The Four Nations Tournament features Sweden, Canada and China. The United States will depart for Chongqing, China for matches on Jan. 21 (vs. Sweden), Jan. 23 (vs. Canada) and Jan. 25 (vs. China).

Lohman, a midfielder, has earned nine caps and returns to the national team for the first time since 2007. Lohman had a breakthrough year with WPS's Philadelphia Independence starting 20 games in 24 appearances, scoring five times. Lohman was a three-time NSCAA First Team All-American in 2001, 2002 and 2003 for Penn State, racking 28 goals, 26 assists for 82 points.

Naeher, too, was a three-time NSCAA All-American and will be with the full team for the first time since last January. More recently, Naeher took part with the U.S. U-23 camp, playing a part in a 1-0-1 record last week as the Americans defeated the Ajax women, 4-0, before drawing the Fullerton Rangers boys squad, 2-2. Currently a member of the Boston Breakers, Naeher took over the starting role for her club midway through last season helping her cause to join the U.S. senior team.

The 26 players will train for five days before the 15 selected members and eight rested veterans depart for China. The United States has a 13-2-6 all-time record in eight appearances at the Four Nations Tournament.
