KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Penn State's string of 12 straight years of All-Americans stretched into year No. 13 on Sunday as sophomore Christine Nairn (Arnold, Md.) earned her first NSCAA All-America honor with a second-team mention. Nairn's recognition is the 26th time a Nittany Lion has been so honored.
Behind the strength of her seven goals and six assists, Nairn was a powerful force in the central midfield for the second straight year. The sophomore phenom again earned All-Big Ten First Team honors due to her stellar play.
Last season, Nairn just missed out on All-American honors while fellow teammates Alyssa Naeher and Katie Schoepfer each gathered third-team places. Nairn is just the third NSCAA Second Team honoree in Penn State's history following Christie Welsh (2002) and Schoepfer (2007).
This season, the NSCAA recognized 49 women's soccer student-athletes on four All-America teams. Nairn is one of 15 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy semifinalists, which was named last week. The finalists will be named on Friday. Nairn was also placed on the NSCAA All-Great Lakes First Team for the second straight year.
