Complete Big Ten Network Schedules: Softball | Baseball
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State softball and baseball teams will make eight combined appearance on the Big Ten Network in 2011 the network announced on Friday afternoon. Both teams will have four games shown live with softball's premiere being Apr. 20 and baseball's on Apr. 16.
The Nittany Lion softball team will host three games at Beard Field on the Big Ten Network starting with a doubleheader against nationally ranked and defending Big Ten champion Michigan on Wednesday, Apr. 20. The doubleheader begins at 5:30 p.m. with the second game slated to start at 8:00 p.m. live on the network.
Softball's other two games will come in May when the Nittany Lions play host to Purdue for a Sunday, May 1 matchup at Nittany Lion Softball Park. Game time is set for Noon for the live broadcast, while softball's television slate rounds out a week later at Iowa with a 2:00 p.m. ET game on Sunday, May 8.
The Big Ten Network will televise two of Penn State's home baseball games during the year. The station will be on hand for the Nittany Lions' bout against Purdue on Saturday, April 16 at 5 p.m. Later, the network will return to air the team's series finale against defending Big Ten champion Minnesota, which is slated for Sunday, May 15 at noon.
A pair of road games will also be televised during the season. The Big Ten Network will air Penn State's April 30 game against Michigan State at 3 p.m. and the squad's May 7 contest against Iowa beginning at 3 p.m.
Along with the regular season contests, the Big Ten Network will televise the entire conference tournament running from Wednesday, May 25 through Sunday, May 29 (if necessary). The playoffs will be hosted by Ohio State at Huntington Park.
The BigTenNetwork.com streaming schedule has yet to be finalized and will be released at a later date. Over 50 matchups for baseball and softball will be streamed live on the network's website with many of those games being shown in a tape-delayed fashion on the Big Ten Network. The games shown on BigTenNetwork will once again be Student-U broadcasts which are produced and staffed by students at each respective institution.
Penn State softball and baseball each open their respective seasons on Friday, Feb. 18. Softball is set for five games at the FAU Kick-Off Classic next weekend debuting against Tulsa (9 a.m.) and UMass (11 a.m.) on Friday. Baseball will be at the season-opening Big Ten-Big East Challenge with games against Seton Hall (Friday at 10 a.m.), West Virginia (Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.) and Notre Dame (Sunday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m.) scheduled to take place.
