Women's Golf Team Finishes First Round in Puerto Rico

Round One Results

RIO GRANDE, P.R. - After one round of golf at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R., the Penn State women's golf team is currently in 17th place out of 18 teams participating. At the tournament, hosted by Purdue, the team put together a first round score of 317 (+9).

Sophomores Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) and Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) currently lead the team, each carding score of a 5-over-par 77. They are currently in a tie for 31st place. Senior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) followed with a 79 in the first round, leaving her in a tie for 55th place after day one.

Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) posted a score of 84 and senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) followed close behind with an 85 in the opening round. Freshman Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) competed as an individual and carded a round of 77, matching Ransone and Seo.

No. 1 ranked Alabama currently leads the field with a 2-under-par 286. Purdue and Iowa State are currently in a tie for second place with team scores of 300. Alabama's Camilla Lennarth leads all golfers with a 70 (-2) in the first round.

The second of three rounds of play will take place tomorrow, Feb. 14. It will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
