UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team will take on 15 Division I teams at the 2011 edition of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at The Club at Pinehurst No. 6 in North Carolina. The three day tournament will be prefaced with practice rounds Thursday followed by 54-holes of stroke play beginning Friday and concluding Sunday.
The competitive 16-team field will be composed of Penn State, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Marshall, Michigan State, UNC-Greensboro,UNC-Wilmington, Old Dominion, Radford, Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, Western Illinois, Xavier and defending champion Virginia Tech.
The Nittany Lions have experienced much success at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in the past years, having won the tournament title in 2009 and tying for third in 2010. The team currently holds the low 54-hole team total record with 852 as well as the low final round score of 279.
Competing for the Nittany Lions will be TJ Howe, Tommy McDonagh, Jay Woodward, Ernie Marin and Anthony DeGol. PSU's Matt Porter will be playing as an individual.
