April 13, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

Notes for the Lady Buckeye

Following a second straight fifth place finish at the C&F Bank Invitational, the women's golf team will now head to Columbus, Ohio for the 31st annual Lady Buckeye Invitational hosted by Ohio State. The tournament will be played on Sat.-Sun., April 16-17 and will consist of 54 holes. Penn State finished 11th there last season.

"This is a great warm-up to the Big Ten Championships," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "The Scarlet Course is a challenge along with the field. After a three week layoff from tournaments I know the team is ready to get back to competition."

Five of the six golfers for Penn State will remain the same after solid play in the past two tournaments. Freshman Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) led the team in the C&F Bank Invitational and is coming off of a career-best eighth place finish. Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) still leads the team with her 76.0 strokes-per-round average.

Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) is the other sophomore competing for the Nittany Lions, as she brings her 77.2 average, second best on the team. Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) are the two senior starters. Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) rounds out the field for the Nittany Lions.
