URBANA, Ill. - Play was suspended early in the second round Saturday at the Illini Spring Classic at the Stone Creek Golf Club due to high wind and cold temperatures. Penn State stands in ninth place with a first round score of 311, placing them 17 strokes behind first-place team Akron.
Senior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) and sophomore Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) led Penn State through the first round carding 2-over par 72's. Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W.Va.) trails the duo by three strokes with a 5-over par 77. Rounding out the Nittany Lion lineup are senior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) and sophomore Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.) who posted 84's.
The tournament will be reduced to 36 holes. Golfers will finish out the second round with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
