UnIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's volleyball coach Russ Rose has announced the addition of two student-athletes to the 2011 freshmen class. The Nittany Lions welcome Lacey Fuller and Micha Hancock, who will be eligible to compete for the Nittany Lions this fall.
Fuller is a 5-6 libero from San Diego, Calif. A four-year letter winner at Torrey Pines High School in Carmel Valley, Calif., Fuller helped guide her team to the 2007 CIF Championship and to two league championships. As a freshman, Fuller was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Fuller helped her club team earn a silver medal at the Miami Junior Olympic's and a fifth place finish at the Reno Junior Olympics. During her senior season, Fuller was named Athlete of the Week and earned MVP honors at the California Challenge. In addition to her volleyball accolades, Fuller was a four-year Scholar Athlete at Torrey Pines.
"We feel great about Lacey coming to Penn State," said Rose. "I think she's going to compete at both libero and as a back row player. She has a great volleyball IQ and comes from a terrific club program. Every time I see her play I feel great about her coming."
Hancock is a 5-11 setter and outside hitter from Edmond, Okla. Hancock was a four-year letterwinner and three-year team captain at Edmond Memorial High in Edmond, Okla. While at Edmond Memorial, Hancock guided the Bulldogs to three Oklahoma 6A State Championships, including the last two consecutive. A two-time Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, Hancock was also a two-time All-Edmond Player of the Year, All-City Player of the Year and MVP of the State Championship. Hancock was voted a High School All-American by Prep Volleyball twice and was a 2010 Under Armour All-American. A 2011 Prep Volleyball Senior Ace, Hancock was a candidate for Prep Volleyball's National Junior and Senior of the Year award and was selected as a Class of 2011 Top 50 Recruit. Hancock participated in the USA Volleyball Oklahoma Regional High Performance Team and won first place, was named to the 2010 U.S. Women's Junior National A2 Team and to the roster for the U.S. Youth Olympic Games. She also picked up the Best Setter Award at the 2010 USA High Performance International Championship.
"Micha was the starting setter on last year's USA team that finished second in Singapore," said Rose. "She's an aggressive attacker who also has a great handle from the setting position. I think she's going to give us a different look than we've had in the past since she's left-handed."
