RADFORD, Va. - First round play commenced Thursday morning at the NCAA Men's Golf Virginia Tech Regional at the Pete Dye River Course. Penn State individual competitor T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) sits tied for eighth, placing the talented senior third for individual competitors.

In the first round, Howe, who went into the tournament as the top-seeded individual, posted a 1-over par 73. He carded a total of three birdies in the first round.

Georgia Tech leads the way on the team leader board with a first round total of 289, giving them a six-stroke cushion over second-place Duke.
