Olsen Named Alternate for U.S. Men's Junior National Team

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising sophomore Jace Olsen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) was named one of seven alternates to the U.S. Men's Junior National Team, USA Volleyball announced Monday.

The U.S. Men's Junior National Team will compete at the 2011 FIVB Men's Junior (U-21) World Championship held Aug. 1-10 in Brazil. The 12-player roster includes 10 players who guided the 2010 Men's Junior National Team to the NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.

Olsen, who completed his freshman season with the Nittany Lions in May, played in 30 matches, starting 27, and 95 sets. He finished third on the team in kills with 193 (2.03 kills per set) and was fourth on the team with 26 aces. In addition, Olsen contributed 99 digs (1.04 digs per set) and 28 total blocks. An All-EIVA Second Team honoree, Olsen helped guide the Nittany Lions to their 13th consecutive and 23rd overall EIVA Championship to advance to the NCAA National Semifinals.
