Oct. 24, 2011

Norfolk, Va. - After three long days at the ITA Regional, Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) and Nina Sertic (Zagrab, Croatia) couldn't pull out another win in the fourth day of competition, but not without a valiant effort.

Januskova entered the singles tournament the eighth-ranked seed and No. 108 in the ITA Preseason poll. After winning three straight matches, the junior faced second-ranked Emily Fraser of Virginia in the quarterfinals. Fraser came into the tournament ranked No. 36 in the ITA Preseason poll.

Januskova came out strong in the first set, beating Fraser 6-2. The score was the same in the second set, but this time Fraser came out the victor to force a third set. In that set, Januskova battled to a tiebreaker but was eventually defeated, 7-6 (6).

In the doubles portion of the tournament, ninth-ranked Januskova and Sertic squared off against third-ranked Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans of William & Mary in the quarterfinals. The duo battled ferociously throughout the entire match, but were eventually upended, 9-8 (5) in the tiebreaker.

The entire Nittany Lion team wrapped up an impressive showing at the ITA Regional - each player that competed won at least won match. Penn State will finish out its fall tournament schedule at the Western Michigan Super Challenge Nov. 4-6.
